The Office of Advising and Academic Services (OAAS) assists students in developing and implementing individualized academic paths, and identifying how to employ the many opportunities available in the School of Arts and Sciences. OAAS monitors your bookish progress to provide support and assistance and our academic advisors are committed to guiding you in critical thinking and empowering y'all to make informed decisions every bit yous define and attain academic success.

Our Mission

Mission:

Our mission is to engage and advise students in identifying their bookish, professional, and personal goals, and develop an informed plan to realize those goals during their journey toward timely graduation in an accessible, welcoming, and safety surround.

Vision:

To be the premiere academic advising resources through which all SAS students realize their highest personal and intellectual aspirations, as a foundation for creating an informed and upstanding denizens.

Goals:

  • Brainwash students on the scope, strengths, and benefits of an arts and sciences caste
  • Assistance students in the realization of their academic and intellectual aspirations
  • Guide students toward creating realistic degree completion plans, using developmental advising, emerging scholarship, and enquiry-based all-time practices
  • Empower students to encompass self-direction and move confidently toward the accomplishment of their own educational and professional goals
  • Review and monitor students' caste progress and inform them of any new policies or changes that impact their curriculum

The School of Arts and Sciences Advising Heart stands together with our students, faculty, and leadership, to say unequivocally that Blackness Lives Matter.


The SAS Advising Centers and staff are committed to ensuring that the spaces we cultivate and inhabit are free of micro-aggressions and systems of oppression, and admit the experiences and excellence of all of our students, faculty and staff.


Nosotros pledge to hold space for our Black colleagues and students as our nation in one case again confronts our shameful history of slavery and the racism that persists in our midst that results in violence against Blackness lives, exemplified in the unjust deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Riah Milton, Dominique Fells, Tony McDade and likewise many other lives taken, made invisible and irrevocably altered in the proper name of the hate that is racism. Nosotros will non stand up for information technology.

We will not be silent!

We Stand up UP!   Every bit Advisors, we have responsibility for identifying and dismantling the systemic barriers that exist in academe for Black Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC). We stand in support of the worldwide protests against police brutality and white supremacy. We condemn any and all acts of violence confronting Blackness communities.

We STEP Upward!  Nosotros commit to recruiting and retaining staff that reflect the identities and experiences of our various student trunk; we volition foster and maintain rubber spaces where our BIPOC students, staff, and faculty can be unapologetically self-expressed, thrive and go along to enrich and strengthen our community.

We SPEAK UP!  Nosotros commit to mind, hear and give voice to Black experiences at Rutgers, particularly when those experiences bring critique and opportunity to grow in our anti-racism. Our commonage community depends on our shared responsibility for reporting whatever bias incident that nosotros experience or witness.

We recognize that this statement is just a first step toward securing those spaces and commit ourselves to the cause of being better allies and better anti-racists for the common adept of our shared destiny toward racial equality.
